This dataset presents statistics from the Census of Governments, Public Employment & Payroll conducted every five years (years ending in '2' and '7') and from the Annual Survey of Public Employment & Payroll in intermediate years. These programs identify the scope and nature of the nation's state and local government sector providing authoritative benchmark figures of public employment and payroll. Data are shown for the month of March for the given reference period.
