Fertility of American Women: 2006

Written by:
P20-558

Introduction

This report describes fertility patterns of American women. Previous U.S. Census Bureau reports on this topic were based on fertility data from the June supplement to the Current Population Survey (CPS), which is collected every 2 years. With the full implementation of the American Community Survey (ACS), we now have the capacity to examine fertility data on an annual basis. The large sample size of the current ACS (3 million addresses) makes it possible, on a state-by-state basis, to analyze fertility characteristics that were previously unobtainable from the CPS.
