In an effort to improve communication and utility of our annual e-commerce statistics, beginning with the 2020 E-Stats data, the U.S. Census Bureau has transitioned to a data visualization. The surveys in this graphic provide a broad perspective of e-commerce activity across several sectors. The estimates in this graphic are based on data from the following surveys:

• Service Annual Survey
• Annual Retail Trade Survey
• Annual Wholesale Trade Survey

The 2021 E-Stats provides estimates of e-commerce activity in key sectors of the U.S. economy for 2021, revises previously released estimates for 2020, and places these estimates in historical context.
