Reducing Response Burden in the American Community Survey: Proceedings of a Workshop

In March 2016 representatives from the Census Bureau and the Committee on National Statistics of the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine met with subject matter experts from academia, business and government, to convene a two-day workshop addressing the topic of reducing respondent burden on the American Community Survey.  Discussions focused on the following areas:

  • Understanding and measuring respondent burden
  • Improving response by building respondent support
  • Using administrative records as an alternative method for obtaining information
  • Using improved sampling and other methods to reduce burden
  • Tailoring the collection of information from group quarters

This report summarizes the workshop proceedings.
