Research and Development (R&D), innovation, and technology data collected on the Annual Business Survey is released by the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) within the U.S. National Science Foundation.
R&D data from businesses with one to nine employees, as well as innovation and technology data from firms of all sizes, can be found on the NCSES-ABS data page.
R&D data from businesses with 10 or more employees collected on the ABS and previous R&D surveys (Business Enterprise Research and Development (BERD) Survey (2019—2025), Business Research and Development Survey (BRDS) (2017—2018), Business R&D and Innovation Survey (2008—2016), and Survey of Industrial Research and Development (SIRD) (1953—2007)) can be found on the NCSES-BERD data page.
