The purpose of the 2020 Post-Enumeration Survey (PES) was to measure the coverage of the 2020 Census. The PES was designed to measure the coverage of housing units and people―excluding group quarters, people residing in group quarters, and remote areas of Alaska. The PES provided estimates of net coverage and components of coverage including correct enumerations, erroneous enumerations, whole-person census imputations, and omissions.
The 2020 Final Housing Unit Followup (FHUFU) was the last field operation of the PES and consisted of FHUFU production and FHUFU quality control (QC). Although originally scheduled to begin in May 2021, FHUFU production and FHUFU QC were delayed over six months because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the delayed start, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic increased the duration of the FHUFU operation from a planned duration of 24 days to an actual duration of 92 days. FHUFU production was conducted from November 29, 2021, to February 28, 2022, and FHUFU QC was conducted from December 6, 2021, to February 28, 2022.
